Recession Obsession: Invest for months to come...

All this obsession with save a penny here and there, and then you're like where did it go? It obviously will not get you far especially when you realize how unhappy you are with your look. The downturn is on the economy, not your sense of style. Take these for instance that not only support and possibly boost the American retail a smidge, but will make you feel good...

Alexander Wang crepe cassis dress. It's been said over and over that whatever the economic climate is, the best investment is the LBD. And this 100% silk crepe number is the one to bring your sexy back. $598

3.1 Phillip Lim ruffle back sweater. Do not underestimate the power of gray. This loose, sweatshirt crew neck is a little bit of cashmere and wool and offers as a wonderful "default" for morning rush hours or loungy weekend brunches. $476

Karen Walker wicker dress. It's possibly one of my favorite mini-shift dresses out there right now. The wide elbow can make it sufficient for the office and the sculptured design gives it an elegant flair. $540

APC pony flats. During economic shit storms, it's always the shoe budget that gets cut first. But, this T-bar, calfskin with printed cowhide motif will make you feel like garmine chic in an Audrey Hepburn movie. Go out of your way. $390

All these items are available online at Jumelle. Shop and do your best and if you're in the 'Burg, stop by the local boutique at 148 Bedford Avenue (718) 388-9525

Insider: Candice Waldron

name:
Candice Waldron

occupation: I own Jumelle, a women's clothing and accessories shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

hometown:
Washington D.C.
homebase: New York for the last 13 years, and in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn for the past 7 years

as a former T.V. producer, what inspired you to open Jumelle?
I worked in broadcast journalism for over 10 years. My first job right out of college was with ABC News. Thereafter, I transitioned to various jobs and up the professional career ladder. I had a very gratifying career, but it was time for me to be independent. It was simply my desires to be self-employed and be in charge of my schedule (and time) that inspired me to open Jumelle. However, I think my long-term professional experience in broadcast journalism has been tantamount to the success of the store. That and very supportive family and friends.

who are the young influencers for fashion right now?
I think Caitlin Mociun is dynamically talented, so much so that buyers from major stores and fashion designers are always inquiring about her work and how to get in contact with her. She also happens to be one of my personal favorites - I always buy a couple of her pieces each season. Heimstone - we discovered this line by Alix Petit and Delphine Delafon over a year ago in Paris. Their collections are so divergent each season, so it's always a welcome surprise. Alix and Delphine are young, eager and talented (and very nice).

if you could open Jumelle in two other cities, where would they be?

Washington D.C. , my hometown and Paris.

best brunch and dinner spots in Brooklyn?

Marlow in Williamsburg, anytime of day. I do not really go to brunch as I'm working. For margaritas and dinner I like Pacifico and Geido for sushi. Though, it's not located in Brooklyn, I love Souen, a macrobiotic restaurant on 13th Street and University in the West Village.

three must-wear items for spring are?
Jumpsuit - I have a great vintage denim one, but this season I am upgrading to Jane Mayle's Josie Romper, it's perfect.

Bensimon'
s any style, any color.

A light-weight go anywhere, wear everywhere dress. I personally love Burfitt's Saskia Dress - it's interesting, unexpected and effortless.

(*all items available at shopjumelle.com)
describe Jumelle's atmosphere in one word -
Refreshing.

favorite time of day?
Mornings for coffee and walks in the park.

what's on your Tivo? I don't have a TV or Tivo. I am an NPR addict.
