The Jumpsuit is a Girl's Bestfriend

The next classic is the jumpsuit.  I have been seeing a lot of it on the F/W '09 runways and expect to see some on the streets for spring.  It is worth the splurge, because besides the ol' faithful, LBD, a jumpsuit could be just the runner-up.

Gradient Magazine

Manhattan welcomed the birth of a new lifestyle magazine, Gradient.   The launch was a fashionable fete at the W Downtown Residences hosted by Patron and included a bevy of chic guests.  The magazine's manifesto is to be an outlet for exploration. For the premier issue, founders Matt Fried and brothers Alan and Barris Vinogradov, exhibited photo composites of famous firsts, the first U.S. President,  the first Mickey Mouse, the first Barbie, the first comic book and other significant people and things to show a world that exists at a gradient level.  The quarterly publication will be distributed gratis and aims to feature design, lighting, food, fashion and a gallery of unique works of art.

Insider: Sue Stemp

name: Sue Stemp

occupation: Fashion Designer

hometown: Burnham-on Crouch, a small sailing village in England
homebase: Manhattan for the last 12 years

what was your very first job in fashion? After I graduated from fashion school, I went to work at Ghost in London where I had been an intern.

what's one misconception about the fashion industry?
That it's not ruthless!

you have a young daughter, a toddler as she is, do you think she's falling in love with fashion?
Well, Kitty already has strong opinions about what to wear in the morning! I wouldn't encourage her especially to be interested in fashion though, it's up to her.

who do you consider to be the young fashion influencers in both london and new york city?
The kids. (*Sue Stemp is very down with the young in crowd, Daisy Lowe, Theodora Richards and Misshapes' Leigh Lezark to name a few, see below.)

you're very into music, is there a particular rock singer/band that seems to always fall on to your mood board each season?
I've always really loved Debbie Harry and her personal style. And David Bowie. A lot of old Mick Rock photos always seem to appear on my wall.

what was the last live music performance you saw?
The Gossip at Webster Hall (NYC) last month. I am a huge fan of Beth Ditto.

in one word, how would you describe new york fashion week?
Knackering!

favorite brunch and after-party spots in Manhattan?  Old favourite classic brunch spots like Balthazar and Odeon.  After-party I like to go to the Norwood Club, the Beatrice or someone's apartment.

what's your bag and what's in it?
It's vintage and not a label. I've never had an "it" bag.  Inside there's my little gold Miu Miu wallet that I love, my entire make-up bag, iPhone, a small sketch book, an emery board, a Sharpie and I am never without a camera.
