In an exclusive interview with Net-a-Porter Magazine, Moore discusses her fashion choices, her close friendship with Tom Ford and receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On being honoured with a star on the world’s most famous sidewalk, Moore jokes; “I don’t need a tombstone. We all want to leave our name on something, so now that I’m on the sidewalk, I can die!”

For the ceremony, she wore a long sleeved Dolce & Gabbana dress with white Givenchy shoes - one of the Hollywood star’s many best dressed moments. Other favourite looks include: ““The yellow Dior dress I wore at the [2012] Emmys – oh my gosh. It was such a strong silhouette. The beautiful Balenciaga with the ruffle [at the 2010 Golden Globes], that was great. I like stuff that’s a little unusual. I like a dress with a bit of an edge.”

For this week’s issue of THE EDIT, Moore has collaborated with friend and Fashion Stylist Lori Goldstein, to produce a beautiful portfolio. “One of the things I love about Lori is that so often on shoots, [stylists] are always trying to get you to wear things that are very short or really bare,” says Moore. “Lori uses clothes as a language.”

Another of Moore’s close fashion friends is Tom Ford. She starred in his movie ‘A Single Man’ in 2009 and his designs are one of her firm red-carpet favourites; she recently wore a Tom Ford red-mirrored dress to this year’s CFDA Fashion Fund; “When Tom makes something for you, you wear it. It was beautiful, perfect. It’s always a pleasure.” On calling her his fashion muse, Moore chuckles, “I don’t know that I’m his muse. I’m definitely a friend.” She continues, “He’s not mysterious about fashion, which I love…He’s just a great, wonderfully creative and soulful person, and a really good friend.”

Moore is no stranger to the fashion set. In 2010, she walked in Ford’s super-secret, closed-door runway show (alongside Beyoncé and Lauren Hutton) and in September of this year, she took her eleven year old daughter, Liv to Reed Krakoff’s Spring Summer 2014 show during New York Fashion Week. “We had a great time, and she met every fashion editor in the business. She loved it…It’s a great thing to share.”

It is clear that the talented actress enjoys fashion, “I think it’s something that should be a lot of fun, and expressive, and obviously have some cultural relevance. It’s about who we are at that moment in time” she says. A typical outfit for Moore consists of her Isabel Marant jacket, boots and J Brand jeans. Last summer at her beach house in Montauk, her husband teased her for getting dolled up to take Liv to riding lessons. “I’d been wearing pyjamas, and changed into my Isabel Marant jacket, a hat and sunglasses, and he was like, ‘Whoa! What the hell happened?’” Her response to him was, “‘I look good!”

Moore’s style rules are simple: “After a certain age, you can’t wear anything with words on it. Also, I don’t wear a lot of color because, having red hair, I carry a lot of color with me.” She laughs, “I read a quote from an actress who said, ‘Only wearing black is like not taking chances’, and I was like, ‘I guess I don’t take chances then! I wear a lot of black!’”

Moore’s attitude to beauty is the same. She doesn’t take risks, having publicly eschewed Botox and plastic surgery in the past. “I’d like to think that I can age as naturally as possible. I don’t want to come out condemning anything anybody does, because I think that all of these things can contribute to making people feel better about themselves, and that’s great. But I also want to look like myself. I mean, we’re not going to live forever.”

When it comes to acting, Moore isn’t afraid to take risks. She has a talent for bringing a relatable, human-side to all of her roles. Next year will see her appear in action films Seventh Son and Non-Stop, drama Maps to the Stars, and part one of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, with part two to follow in 2015.

At 53, Moore looks at least 10 years younger in person. “I feel like I’d like to be 90. I’d like to be 100. I may not be lucky enough to have that happen. But, boy, I’m going to try.”
