Fashion Week by Grace Coddington.

Grace Coddington's favorite fashion week moments.

Oscar de la Renta. "I thought it was a great show—young and fresh and utterly wearable for everyone. I loved his colors and that he had two very distinctive lengths—long and short. There was a beautiful black lace dress with a veil that reminded me of one of the first shows of his that I went to, more than 20 years ago. This one was reminiscent of then but totally modern. It’s amazing. Oscar just gets better and better."

Sophie Theallet. "Her cotton dresses were great—exactly what I’d like to wear next summer or the end of this summer. There was a red one with a vertical black-slash print on it that I starred in my notebook."

Lady Gaga. "Lady Gaga: I met her backstage at Marc Jacobs and introduced myself. She was wearing a ferociously studded mask and insisted on kissing my cheek, which almost blinded me. Gaga really makes such an effort just for a simple meeting in the office. She was wearing Philip Treacy’s hat with Vogue written on it when she came to see Anna, and when she came to see me the next day she had sprayed her hair red. I was really amused and flattered"

Marc Jacobs. "Marc Jacobs show: After it was over I went up to him and said—as I always do—”Oh, Marc, why do you have to show at such high speed? It’s so hard to catch all the layers of your ideas from the topknot to the toes.” Twice around wasn’t enough. I wish it had been 20."

Elijah Wood. "I’ve had so many people who saw The September Issue come up to say hello. One morning there was a big guy on a bicycle blowing kisses to me. In line for a coffee at Wichcraft in Bryant Park, people in front and behind me said how much they liked it. Then, at Rodarte, Elijah Wood—Frodo!—came up to me. He was so sweet and charming. A real actor saying he admired the film—what a compliment."

Proenza Schouler. "The clothes were adorable. They were inspired by skateboard and surfboard artwork. And I loved the color-streaked, bleached-out surfer hair that Didier Malige did. It’s a great time in fashion for young people. There’s so much that’s fun and flattering and colorful."

Rodarte. "Last season, the gladiator thing peaked in the form of high-heeled shoes and boots. But this season Rodarte strapped up their dresses, and it was beautiful. I loved the apocalyptic color palette with bits of color woven in. There was also a great pair of punkish pants with zippers everywhere."

Vogue's August issue. "A call from Martha Stewart: She wanted a kitten and remembered a Meisel shoot I’d done a year ago with Karen Elson and a ton of calico Persians the same as my cat Pumpkin. She asked where I got them, and I gave her my breeder’s name (Pam Rutan). A few days later, I found out that she took delivery of two."

Fashion Week BLT. "My daily BLT with avocado, when the Condé Nast Cafeteria has it. I need it for sustenance and strength to make it through the week. I only wish I had time for a glass of wine, too."
