Featured in Matchesfashion 'Style Report' Wallpaper*s fashion director Isabelle Kountoure talks about monochrome dressing and how it's the uniform that suits her.

I look for clothes that have an excellent cut and are of great quality. I always believe the true beauty of life lies in its simplicity.

Here's a few of her Rules of Style:
1. THROW OUT THE RULEBOOK
‘To me the rules are always “there are no rules” – I truly believe in everyone wearing what they want. And I think this is the beauty of living today as opposed to 100 years ago.’

2. IT’S ALL ABOUT EFFORTLESS ELEGANCE
‘What I wear must live with me from 9am to 9pm. From being on set to returning to my desk, attending a show or cocktail party or eating dinner, I think comfort and adaptability is key to my wardrobe. I like to neither be underdressed, nor overdressed. I like to invest in good timeless pieces that will stay with me for ever.’

3. BLACK IS BEST
‘My mother and boyfriend would say I am always in black. In the old days, I would have been considered a black widow wearing all black, all year around. Thank God these days are over. I simply love black, I feel good in it, no matter what time or season of the year. I love seeing colour and print on other people, but I think you'll only catch me in a boho print when holidaying on a Greek island.’

4. SIMPLICITY IS BEST
‘I love such labels as The Row and 1205. They look simple, but when you wear them you feel everything but! I have always believed that elegance is not about what you wear but how you wear it and how you feel in it.’

5. ADAPT TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS
‘I have always been myself, but, of course, with age and time your style adapts and changes. The place where you live also has a considerable impact on what you wear and on your attitude: when I lived in LA my lifestyle was very different to how I live my daily life in London today. London to me feels quite hard as a city. The weather, the space and the pace of life is hugely different and affects your outfits.’
