What Vogue Is Wearing...Jumpsuits.

Style.com - It’s true: Many of us were skeptical when designers sent jumpsuits and rompers down their spring runways. Sure, they looked fun and effortless—but would chic women over the age of 25 actually wear them? When Vogue editors turned up for work in jumpsuits, the answer became clear. “You just don’t have to think about them,” says stylist Tabitha Simmons, who came to the office recently in a gray Topshop romper (she bought it last summer) over black tights and a long-sleeved tee. “They’re as easy as wearing dresses.” That same day, Senior Market Editor Meredith Melling Burke was in a wide-leg denim jumpsuit from Joe’s Jeans (her closet also contains two from 3.1 Phillip Lim and a ’70s Chanel she bought on eBay). “When I first saw them at the shows I thought, ‘Oh, are we going there?’ ” she says. “But now I’m eating my words. The more I see jumpsuits, the more I realize they don’t have to be so retro or utilitarian.” Indeed they don’t. Sophie Pera, Features Assistant, knows a good sparkly piece when she sees it. She loves, she says, “the Lauren Hutton at Studio 54 look,” getting it from two of her favorites, a tuxedo-top romper from the Marché Montreuil flea market in her native Paris and a vintage gold-lamé piece. For non-vintage, Pera goes to Zara. The trick is all about getting the right balance between dressed up . . . and not. Filipa Fino, Senior Accessories Editor, has taken to pairing her blue drawstring 3.1 Phillip Lim jumpsuit with a Nina Ricci denim jacket and Alexandre Birman for Richard Chai heels. “It’s very comfortable, but sophisticated enough for the office,” she says. “I can throw a little jacket over it, and it’s immediately dressed up.” So, now that they’ve tried out the trend, our editors share their thoughts on some of the best jumpsuits and rompers to buy right now. - Florence Kane
