Yves Saint Laurent 1936-2008

"Fashions fade, style is eternal." - Yves Saint Laurent

There are no words strong enough to describe how the world will miss the legendary designer and icon, Yves Saint Laurent.

Catherine Deneuve, his eternal muse.

From the time he left home at age 17 to work for Christian Dior, it was the beginning of his legacies.  After Dior died in 1957, he was named head of the House of Dior at age 21. His first solo collection under the Dior label gave birth to the trapeze dress and brought him under the radar in the fashion world.  In 1962 he opened his own couture house Rive Gauche, which brought him instant fame around the world.

His fall-winter 1966-67 collection officially put him on the genius mark when he designed a tuxedo line for women.

When he retired in 2002, he stated that "fashion was not only supposed to make women feel beautiful, but to reassure them, to give them confidence, to allow them to come to terms with themselves."

"The most beautiful clothes that can dress a woman are the arms of a man she loves. But for those who haven't had the fortune of finding this happiness, I am there." - Yves Saint Laurent (1983)
